Spain Update #3

“I’m friends with the imam.”

Surprised, our Wichita team pauses and looks at Guillermo. We are visiting a second community center in a nearby town comprised mainly of immigrants.

Guillermo and his wife Emily run the center.Guillermo continues by explaining how the imam’s wife attends Spanish classes at the center taught by Emily. One day the imam showed up and asked Guillermo to teach him Spanish too. The funny thing was, the imam already spoke Spanish. Guillermo agreed but the “lessons” quickly turned into conversations about faith and God. The two met regularly and over time Guillermo shared the gospel with the imam. Throughout these meetings, the imam continued to refer friends and neighbors to the community center to learn Spanish.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5

There’s a heaviness, a spiritual oppression in this city. Both Emily and Guillermo feel it. A battle is being waged between the light and the darkness. As our team spent time on a prayer-walk through the streets, we were reminded of how much this war is fought through prayer.

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” Ephesians 6:18

Please join us in praying for Emily and Guillermo (and their 1-year old daughter)—that they may boldly declare the gospel.
