Puerto Rico: Day 6

Today was our final work day. The VBS lesson was “Jesus walking on water.” The kids made two gospel bracelets with colored beads; one to keep and one to share with a family member or friend.

The construction team returned for the third day to the rehab center where they spent meaningful time with six residents and the director. Team member Jim shares, “Testimonies were shared by two residents and by team member Jeff. The residents shared how God has brought them through hard circumstances such as abandonment at a young age and destructive addictions. Resident Carlos read the Luke story of the prodigal son. And Pastor Mike led a meditation on the parable of the lost sheep. Mike stressed that God loves us so much he will pursue us until we express our need for him and repent of our sins. After contact information was shared, warm hugs were given and a few tears were shed. After that, team members worked on clearing yesterday’s mud slide and cleaning back at camp.”

The team enjoyed a fun afternoon at Boquerón Beach. We returned to camp for the final debrief. Tomorrow we travel home! Prayers are welcome.

As our trip comes to an end, looking back on VBS, team member Dana gave her perspective on the time spent working here stating, “The experience we’ve had in Puerto Rico has truly been life transforming. Going on a missions trip puts God at the top priority of one’s life. VBS was a wonderful experience as we were able to love on each child, and give them a glimpse of God‘s love for them. Our team collectively shared our individual gifts to create an atmosphere of love. We will miss these kids and other church leaders and helpers after this special week. May God bless each one of us and these children forevermore.”
