Puerto Rico: Day 1

It’s been a fun day of travel and team bonding! After gathering at Eisenhower airport early this morning, the Puerto Rico team of 25 smoothly connected through Houston and arrived in San Juan this afternoon. We met up with our Praying Pelican staff and boarded the bus for a few hour ride to Mayaguez, which afforded us the opportunity to take in coastal glimpses and lush tropical vistas. We arrived at the Circle Christian camp where we’re staying, which sits atop a bus-proof hill. The camp administrators, Jorge and Evelyn, shared their testimony of how the camp was born out of God’s call upon their lives when they accepted Christ several years ago. Jorge described how, at one point in the camp’s history, state-side volunteers helped rebuild the camp after hurricane damage.

After pizza dinner, Christian, our Praying Pelican lead, led us in an icebreaker and reviewed the mission group’s approach, which is to have teams work alongside the local church to support their ministries. We are getting used to the sights and sounds of Mayaguez – which include the little el coqui frogs. God has blessed us with an awesome travel day. We’re excited to be here to see and experience him at work, as we seek to be used by him this week.
