At Wichita’s Hunger Challenge we will gather with other believers and friends in the community to pack food and send hope to war refugees and famine victims in the South Sudan (or wherever it is most needed in the world at the time). It’s a hands-on activity for ages 3 and up as we send food and hope to those who need it. Registration is now open!
What is the Hunger Challenge?
This is Wichita’s fourth Hunger Challenge, and it’s a tangible way to make a difference in world hunger. Often the global hunger crisis feels so big we aren’t sure what we can do, but in just two hours you can help pack meals for those facing starvation. Each 33-pound box contains 216 meals, and our goal is to complete at least 100,000 meals. We’ll work in assembly lines to measure food ingredients, funnel them into bags and weigh, seal and box the meals. Each meal is full of necessary nutrients and includes rice, soy, vegetables and vitamins.
Why South Sudan?
The South Sudan has been in a civil war since 2013 and faces extreme ethnic violence. The country’s health conditions are considered some of the worst in the world, including the world’s highest maternal mortality rate. It is estimated there is only one doctor for every 500,000 people, and the country only has three hospitals. More than 40% of the population is facing famine. (Please note the food is intended for South Sudan, but could be sent wherever it is most needed in the world at the time, especially in the event of natural disaster.)
