FACE 2 FACE : Filthy Language and LongsufferingThis month, we conclude our year-long study in Mark and Colossians 3:8-15 on the theme Face to Face. Come Closer. Be Changed. We'll examine the pairings of the words "filthy language" and "patience." What does Paul mean when he exhorts followers of Jesus to rid themselves of filthy language and to put on patience, and how does Jesus show us the way in this interesting and compelling discipleship matter?

What is lacking in the life of many followers of Jesus and congregations is the power of the Holy Spirit. Without restoring a commitment to seek intimacy with God, whose power transforms the human heart and makes the people of God passionate to be his witnesses among the nations, our human efforts to change are futile. How can we get the power of God back? Let's refocus our focus on a face-to-face encounter with Jesus. Concentrate on two things: reading the Bible and praying.
FACE 2 FACE : Slander and GentlenessAs slander becomes more commonplace and left frequently unchallenged, gentleness is on the decline. Gentleness is a forgotten virtue. God calls us to reflect his holy character in our daily lives, regardless of the decadence or harshness of the culture around us. He wants us to be fruitful and productive in our holiness. Part of that productivity and character, however, is dealing with each other with gentleness and respect, showing kindness and love.
As we come closer to Jesus' face, we’ll leave our human emotion of malice behind, and begin to understand what it means to live in Christ-like humility. We will begin to realize that humility means freedom from pride and arrogance. And we’ll see how allowing Jesus to control our mindset, thoughts and actions will create in us a humble, obedient heart ready to leave behind malice, which is deep seated and “remembered” anger, and serve the Lord in humility.

As we come closer to Jesus' face, we’ll experience a one-one-one relationship with God himself — the kind that is life changing and intimate. And the best part is, he wants to have this kind of relationship with us! Jesus wants us to know him, understand his heart, walk with him and talk with him about everything. So join us as we embark on a journey into the best kind of relationship — one that is face to face with the Savior.

As we come closer to Jesus face, we’ll see that drawing nearer to Jesus means a new beginning for us. In fact, that’s what the Christmas season is all about. It is during this season we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ into the world. His birth, as fully God and fully human, marks a new beginning for mankind. He came to provide for us a way of salvation, the beginning of a new life in him. And he will return again, ushering in the beginning of a new heaven and a new earth. So join us this Advent season as we celebrate our new beginning in Jesus. As we honor his birth, we’ll discover the hope we have in him.

As we come closer to Jesus' face, we’ll exchange our human emotion of rage for his characteristic of kindness. This becomes a transformation of our hearts, from hearts of selfish anger to ones made of selfless love and compassion.

When we bring our face of anger into relationship with the face of compassion in Jesus, authentic change occurs. Let Jesus change you, free you and enable you to become the person the Father wants you to become.
FACE 2 FACE : The RelationshipWhen you’re face to face with someone, you can see their true character. You are able to look deeply into their eyes and discover things about them you may not have recognized at a distance.
