...A Church-WIde Adventure September 12 – November 5
What images come to mind when you hear the name Jesus? Religious icon, mystical guru or maybe he’s the figure in the stained-glass window at church or in the painting hanging in the hallway of your grandmother’s house? As we ask these questions, we are bound to meet the Jesus who is not merely an ancient sage but the living, breathing Son of God. We will find ourselves captivated by his teaching, embraced by his love and disarmed by his grace. Nothing in this life is worth more than the quest to ponder Jesus.

This fall, you are invited on a 56-day adventure to spend time in the company of Jesus. For eight weeks, September 12 - November 5, we will read through the dynamic book: In the Company of Jesus (cost $10). Written in brief daily segments with opportunities for personal reflection and dialogue with God, this book will take us into the company of Jesus where we can engage him in the moment. We will meet him as teacher and friend, as lover and forgiver, as leader and conqueror, as healer and revealer. Whether you are meeting Jesus for the first time or you’ve known him for many years, you’ll find new insights from time spent in the company of Jesus.
You can purchase your book by contacting Katy Lee in the Spiritual Growth office (634.0337, ext. 210) or visiting the resource table outside the Spiritual Growth office on Sundays.
Pray: Begin your time with prayer, asking God to help you understand the passage you are about to read and how you might live it out in your life.
1 What? Read through the passage, scanning for who is speaking and who is present. Pick out a verse or verses on which you want to meditate. Write out this passage in the left-hand “What?” column of the 3W worksheet.
2 So What? Use the middle section of the 3W Bible Study Worksheet to dissect the passage. Comprehend the biblical principles that come from the verses. Try outlining the passage, writing it in your own words, finding key words or phrases, and asking questions of the text.
3 Now What? Use the right-hand column of the 3W Bible Study Worksheet to write out ways you can apply this passage directly to your life. See yourself in the story and ask how the biblical principles will change the way you live or create within you a new attitude. Be specific and design an action plan: What will I do? When and where will I do it? With whom will I do it?
Pray: You prayed at the beginning, asking God to teach you from his Word. Now pray again, asking God to help you apply what he has taught you.
Tell: Finally, go tell someone about what you’ve learned. This will not only solidify the truth in your own heart, but it will also help others benefit as well.
