Eastminster's 10 Core Beliefs

Eastminster’s 10 Core Beliefs align with the essential tenets of the Reformed tradition. Below are short summaries of theses tenets, but Easminster’s complete document Essential Tenets of the Reformed Tradition provides a more detailed outline of these beliefs.

1.    We believe in the Trinity…that God eternally exists as three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and each person is fully God, and there is one God.

2.    We believe in the Incarnation of God the Son…He became a human being as Jesus of Nazareth. He was fully God and fully human.

3.    We believe in Justification…the act of God in which he thinks of our sins as forgiven and sees us as having Jesus Christ’s righteousness. Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone.

4.    We believe in Scripture…that the Bible consists of the Old and New Testament, and that it is the complete, inspired, infallible Word of God. There are no other writings which are the Word of God.

5.    We believe in the Sovereignty of God…that he exercises power over his creation and is in control of the universe he created.

6.    We believe in Election…an act of God before creation in which he chooses some people to be saved according to his sovereign good pleasure.

7.    We believe in God’s Covenant…his unconditional promise made first through Abraham and then through Jesus Christ. These covenants, the old and new covenants, are one promise, beginning with Abraham and coming to fulfillment with Jesus Christ’s provision of salvation to humanity through his death and resurrection.

8.    We believe in Stewardship…the responsibility given to humans by God for managing the resources of the earth. Christian stewardship involves the whole of life and living responsibly to glorify God.

9.    We believe in Sin and Idolatry…that sin is any failure to conform to the moral law of God in act, attitude or nature. We also believe in original sin, which includes original guilt and original pollution. Idolatry is the primary manifestation of sin, meaning someone or something is placed before God in a person’s life.

10.    We believe in Obedience…doing what is right according to the Bible in response to God.
